File->Import always uses ~/Desktop as the default path

When I use File->Import, I expect Inkscape to use the path of the currently open file by default. However, it always defaults to ~/Desktop.

Inkscape 0.48 and 0.48+devel r9772 on OS X 10.5.8

I cannot fully reproduce your problem: when starting Inkscape with new preferences file (default settings), the default path for the import dialog is '~', after that, it is the last used directory a file was imported from. So from my point of view, the feature request would be (based in the behavior of Inkscape 0.48, as seen on OS X):

- Add a preference like the one for 'Save as' ('Preferences > Saving: [x] Use current directory for "Save As…"') to optionally import always from the same directory as the current drawing (optionally because others might have different workflows, importing images e.g. from a dedicated or project-specific image folder).

Ah, I didn't notice... in inkscape_0.48.0-1ubuntu1, the dialog defaults to the last used import location rather than "~/Desktop". I'll therefore close this report and open a separate one for the saving preferences request.
