Bug Description

If one tries to open/edit an SVG file that one does not have write access to, Inkscape will not complain, and will happily ignore your requests to "Save" the file.

I just lost about 3 hours of work on a file because Inkscape didn't warn me that it couldn't overwrite/save the file.

I'm on version: "Inkscape 0.47pre0 r21549, built Jun 12 2009"

On Ubuntu 9.04 / 64bit.

it is not easy to check if a particular file is writable or not.
Not only there are the file permissions but also OS user access rules might come into account.
However I thought this issue is fixed already.

How comes that you dont have write permissions? Is the file write protectetec or is your user rights not enough to write to this file?
On which Os are you working?

Please could you also check the Inkscape0.47pre2?

thanks, Adib.

I mentioned in my post that I'm on Ubuntu 9.04 / 64bit.

I didn't have write access to that particular file, because it's a shared file between two users... the sticky bit didn't stick, I guess. User "A" created the file, and I was user "B"... so I could open it, but received no warning. I expect that the file was rw-r--r-- at the time.

When I clicked save, or ^S, it happily "did something" and as far as I could tell, it worked. It didn't occur to me to "double-check" to see if it was saved.

I will try a newer build if I can find one... any idea where I can get debs?

Thanks.

No 0.47pre2 debs for 9.04, I'm afraid.

Which is weird; the source seems to be there.
