eraser stroke closes pencil line

When I draw a pencil line with pencil tool (any shape) and then use the eraser tool to erase a section anywhere on that line,...the line closes leaving a weird result with the white eraser mark showing through the newly closed shape.

I entered this as a new bug because the previous one mentioned the
marker tool. I'm referring to the pencil tool.

The markers bug is probably a side effect.
