Bug Description

system:
win2k sp4
Inkscape ver.:
Inkscape21460-0906020109.7z , 1.06.2009

if you have a path with a linked clone and you try to incorporate another path into it by using command [Path->Combine(ctrl+k)] you will:
a)make a succesfull "combine” operation, but Inkscape will not propagate the change to the linked copys/clones
b)the clone itself is unlinked and is editable now.

I would say that's expected behaviour. However, there is an easy workaround that also works when you want to add objects to a parent. 1-Take the first path and group it alone
2-Make a clone of the group
3-Whenever you want to edit the parent of the clones, get inside the group and use the Combine command as you did. You'll see that the clones get updated.

The result actually depends on the stack order of the objects to be combined: if the path which has a linked clone is stacked higher than the other object(s) it is combined with, the link of the clone is preserved (because the combined path keeps the ID of the top-most path in the selection which is combined).

If the objects to be combined don't overlap, the result of the 'Combine' operation is difficult to predict - possibly, the ID used for the combined object could depend on selection order (first selected object)?
