Bug Description

I discovered this bugs a couple of nightlies ago and it still seems to be present in r21167 (official nightlies / Windows build).

When copying and pasting an object style with a gradient, the receiving object's fill goes transparent and the fill preview is just random noise (see attachment)

I just created a shape
* Added a gradient
* Copy the object (Ctrl-C)
* Create a new object
* Paste Style (Ctrl-Shift-V)

And that's that

Confirmed on Ubuntu 9.04, build 21237.
Actually, the gradient is pasted, but it stays at its original position.
In the following screenshot, I've copied the rectangle's gradient and pasted it to the ellipse. But the ellipse's gradient is above the rectangle.

not reproduced with Inkscape 0.47 and 0.47+devel r9402 on OS X 10.5.8

The 'paste style bug' described in comment #4 is the same as bug #166715 “paste style doesn't keep relative gradiant position” (marked 'Won't fix').

Can we close this report as 'Fix released' (0.47) or link as duplicate to #166715?

Looks like a duplicate, yes. But I'd push to re-open it.
A duplicate of something that "is not a bug, it's a feature" is a hint that users aren't seing it that way.

In my oppinion, it's a usability bug, a design choice that commonly looks like an error to the eyes of the users.
