Bug Description

If you have an existing flowed text and you insert some line breaks or text displacing the existing text at the end of the paragraph out of the textbox limits, that displaced text is destroyed.

Steps to reproduce:
1- Create a flowed text box. Create a text.
2- Adjust the texbox to the limits of the existing paragraph
3- Edit the text. Inser a couple of line breaks and some text making the existing text go beyond the lower end of the text box.
4- expand the textbox. the displaced text should be there, but it's not.

Inkscape SVN
Ubuntu 8.10 - 64 bit.

btw. Once this is fixed, there should be an indicator when the text exceeds the bounds of the textbox. At the moment is impossible to know if the text displayed is the complete content of the textbox or just a part of it.

I can't reproduce this with build 21180 (ubuntu 8.10, 64bit). Can you confirm whether this is fixed or not for you in the current SVN version?

I just compiled Rev. 21182.
As far as I can see, the original bug seems to be fixed (text is not destroyed anymore)
However, there's a bug. If you displace all the text out of the bounds of the textbox, the box isn't selectable anymore.

Please try this steps:

1- Create a textbox.
2- type some text.
3- select the textbox with the select tool
4- insert the text. Place some linebreaks before the text, displacing the whole existing text out of the bounds of the existing text.
5- click on the select tool.

Result: The textbox isn't visible anymore, and it can't be selected.

There's a workaround: using the XML editor and selecting the textbox element makes it visible again.

I'm reopening this bug, changing the summary and dropping the importance. Information isn't destroyed anymore, but it's a bug.

Changed in inkscape:
importance: High → Low
status: Invalid → New
summary: - Inserting new line breaks in flowed text destroys the text dispaced out
- the text box
+ Textbox is unselectable after text is overflowed by empty lines.
