Size should optionally adjusted to match old bounding box when stroke changes

Bug Description

Sometimes when you have several objects right next to another, a change in stroke's width in one of them will create a gap. So there should be an option for Selector tool to adjust size of an object to compensate changes in stroke width so that no gaps are created.

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Confirmed
summary: - Size should optionally adjusted to match old BB when stroke changes
+ Size should optionally adjusted to match old bounding box when stroke
+ changes

Having an option to change the stroke alignment relative to the path would help. I know this has been commented earlier... (suv assist me! ;))

That was the one I was looking for, although I don't consider it a duplicate but rather was suggesting that implementing that would solve this report. Aligning the stroke inside of the rectangle would avoid gaps no matter what stroke width you use (I use this trick in Indesign all the time).

Off-topic: Aren't 170898 and 172214 basically dupes of 170401?

Regards.

Need to re-read them all first ;-). I listed them related because
a) bug #170898 already has two duplicates that first would need to be re-linked...
b) I am still looking for another one I vaguely remember depicting the pitfalls of re-aligning due to stroke-width changes
c) need time to think about: how does the geometric bounding box setting fit into this? and the option 'Scale stroke width'?
d) ... ?
