Bug Description

I want to make a rectangle with a scalloped edge, so I drew a rectangle then a small circle, selected all > Object to path, then Effect > pattern along path and used the following options;

Copies of the pattern: Repeated, stretched
Deformation type: Snake
other settings 0.0

and the attached file is what I get. Is it possible that shapes can be stretched around any shape without all the distortions or am I doing something wrong?

In Inkscape 0.47pre there is a new extension 'Generate from Path > Scatter…' that does 'Pattern along Path' without deforming the pattern.

See also <http://math.univ-lille1.fr/~barraud/Inkscape/pathdeform/>:
"…the path is not deformed: it is just stamped along the second path. "
