In 0.47-dev Path Length path effect would need several improvment to match technical drawing needs. At least :
- have a scale value
- write the length along the path (this could be an option)
- allow the user to unset the unit to be write in the drawing

No. 1 and 3 are now added in SVN. As for 2, that' s probably trickier. I don't know if the cairo library (which is used for rendering) has an align-text-along-path feature or whether it's easy to simulate "by hand". I'm leaving this report open until I have more info on that.

The other improvements that seems important for me in Path Length filter are:
 - possibility to measure not only total length of a path, but also each segment of it.
 - possibility to set the precision (eg.: 0.0, 0.00, 0.000 and so on)

Also, there should be a possibility to just get a message box with the resulting length. I have had hard times finding and interpreting results.
