Bug Description
This is a feature request.
It would be desirable to be able to delete a node from a path and not have the adjacent nodes converted to cusps.
I know this is done to preserve the shape, and that you can choose not to preserve the shape by holding Ctrl. But this feature would be more useful if it was able to preserve the shape without converting smooth nodes to cusp nodes, even if the shape is not preserved perfectly.
Normally if an artist creates a smooth node it's very intentional and converting to a cusp doesn't help.
Likewise, simplify should also preserve smooth nodes.
Agreed. (If the current node deletion behaviour is useful for some people it could be moved to Alt+Del.)
We need to work out suitable formulae for this, but it should at least be done so that if you add a node and then delete it, then the curve is unchanged (except for rounding error, and possible change of symmetric nodes to smooth nodes). In general, it's a question of lengthening (or perhaps shortening in some cases) the handles without changing their direction.
I think you should file a separate bug report for simplify, since it's a different problem.
