2008-04-30 04:45:12 Scribblette description I'm not sure how to search for this one exactly. As far as I can tell, it's random. It's happened while I've been laying out nodes with the pen tool, editing the nodes with the pen tool, or while typing out text... Inkscape simply disappears. Poof. Gone. No crash. No report. No errors. No saves. Nothing. Nothing that I know to look for, that is. I'm one of the dumb new end users who's still getting the hang of it (and rather loving it except for the issues had!), but I'm fairly sure software isn't s'posed to pull the disappearing act on you. Simple advice on how to trace this appreciated. I can't seem to duplicate it yet while trying. In case it's related to the newest Wacom Penabled Tablet Drivers I grabbed, I uninstalled them and will be trying again. Using the latest stable - 0.46, April 1st 2008 - on an M200 Toshiba Portege Tablet PC, Windows XP SP2 Tablet Edition. Inkscape simply disappears. No crash report, no warnings, no back up save. As far as I can tell, it's somewhat random. It usually happens only if it's been a while since I last saved, but I could just be turning back into a paranoid delusive. Unfortunately I haven't been able to reliably reproduce the error. I've only been working with laying out nodes with the pen tool, editing said nodes, changing the width of the lines, etc - though it happened while I was laying out text as well previously. It happens both in Outline and Normal mode (though I'll double check that) - I usually work in Outline mode for speed (program chugs down a lot at times, not sure why given I only have a few shapes on screen). With Command Prompt and running InkCL I've been able to collect errors that pop up at crash, as seen in the posts below. In summary, the errors look like this: C:\Program Files\Inkscape>inkcl return code: -1073741819 ** (inkscape.exe:3144): CRITICAL **: SPObject* sp_object_unref(SPObject*, SPObject*): assertion `object != NULL' failed ** (inkscape.exe:3144): CRITICAL **: SPObject* sp_object_unref(SPObject*, SPObject*): assertion `object != NULL' failed ** (inkscape.exe:3144): CRITICAL **: SPCurve* sp_curve_new_from_foreign_bpath(const NArtBpath*): assertion `new_bpath != NULL' failed ** (inkscape.exe:3144): CRITICAL **: SPObject* sp_object_unref(SPObject*, SPObject*): assertion `object != NULL' failed That is followed by the following two lines, which repeat a dozen times. The third recorded crash was truncated for length as I was resizing several objects at the time it happened. I'm using the latest stable - 0.46, April 1st 2008 - on an M200 Toshiba Portege Tablet PC, 1.5gb RAM, Windows XP Pro SP2 (Tablet Edition), with all the latest updates except for the newer versions of the .net framework. No spyware, no viruses, no excess crap running.

No spyware, no viruses, no excess crap running. Inkscape simply disappears. No crash report, no warnings, no back up save. Seems to be mostly random, occuring most often while using the pen tool to move nodes in a path. Chances of occuring appear to increase the longer it's been since you last saved. Running InkCL through Command Prompt provides the following errors that pop up at crash, further detail in following posts (below the "how do I do this?" queries).
