Bug Description
my idea is to integrate a simple 3d engine (optionally using opengl for some calculations) in order to use the faces of the 3d objects as a layer with the ability of rendering them with cool effects.
with a plane you could move it to a perspective view, so you can create perspective objects without transforming them, for example, you could add a text and make a perspective view of the text but you would still be able to change the text or any other element of the layer-plane. idem for inserted jpgs. also you could deform the plane, bend it, move a corner, make waves on it, etc so you could add so much cool effects, think about the effect of making a old photo with bended corners.
with a box (like the actual 3d box) you could add text, etc on every face and still be able to transform the box.
with a sphere you could make virtually lens effects, same for a cylinder.

Thanks for your suggestion! A first step towards this is already done in the current development version of Inkscape, which provides a Live Path Effect called "Perspective Path". It allows you to draw an arbitrary path in the perspective specified by a 3D box while leaving the original path fully editable. Note that this feature is work in progress and still needs to be (and will be :)) improved in the future.
