Wishlist: grid or shape on 3d box

i was using inkscape to make some simple diagrams to explain some program code i have written.
I have been using the 3D box to visualise 3D arrays... so..
Using the 3D box shape, it would be usefull if a grid could be drawn over the faces.

then i started thinking about how you (the inkscape) team would have to implement this, and i had the further idea of 3D layers.

Inkscape is not a 3D design, drawing or rendering program... its a vector drawing program, which means the weight of ray tracing code should not be a consideration, in fact it is more important that the end user has control over the output colours as a flat image. However, perspective in many cases is important in images. The Idea of 3D layers would be to consider a new type of layer which is a plane in 3D space. The image is a perspective projection to the Zero plane. Each 3D Layer can be edited in a normal flat view or in perspective view. The objects and paths in each layer remain 2D. Planes can intersect. Transparencies work as expected. No ray tracing or surface types are considered, only perspective selection.
the Layer/plane position can be described by 3 points or a or 2 (or 3) rotation angles.
A plane may also be positioned by snapping to points in different layers.
layers can be made parallel or lay in the same plane. layers can be moved and rotated, separately or in groops.

A 3d box can be converted into 3 simple squares in 3 3D Layers. Or 6 if you are interested in the back of the box.
You can then easily draw on each of the faces.
a 3d box as it exists now could continue to exist in a single layer.

All 3D Layers in the zero plane ((0,0,0),(1,0,0),(0,1,0)) are equivalent to normal Layers.

its a bit of a long idea, but it would be nice.

(then!...adding a coloured fog in the 3D Space would produce a nice effect)
