remove "bitmap" from Inkscape entirely, please

Hi Friends,
Even though we've changed the use of "bitmap" where it really means "raster" (for example, recently Export Bitmap dialog was changed to Export PNG) there are still places in the program which use "bitmap". For example, Edit menu > Make a bitmap copy. And there are others, although I probably can't list them all, at the moment.

Could we please change all instances of "bitmap" when it means "raster" to "raster"? Many users don't understand.

I will use this report, and whenever I come across one, I'll list it here. Anyone else, please feel free to help!

um, what is the difference between the two?
in my experience, 'bitmap' is the more common of the two.

I think it's the naming overlap between Windows bmp file format which causes the confusion.

yes, I can see that would be confusing; although to be perfectly honest, nobody these days still uses the bmp format, it has more or less gone the way of the dodo.

Yes, it's because of the confusion with the BMP format.

(I've recently helped 2 different people who were importing a raster image (in one case a JPG, the other was a PNG). Next they used Make a bitmap copy, and then they used Trace Bitmap. Apparently they thought they needed to convert it.)

I just think Inkscape should be vocabularily (if that's a word) correct.

For "Make a bitmap copy"....I guess technically Inkscape makes a PNG, doesn't it? So maybe "Make a PNG copy" or "Make a PNG image copy".

For "Trace Bitmap" I would suggest "Trace Raster Images".

(If I knew how to handle the program files correctly, I guess I could probably make these changes myself. But it's probably better if I don't try it.)
