Subpath stitching

Bug Description

The subpath stitching release notes point to a site (http://members.shaw.ca/jillbritton/string_art/jbstringart.htm) as an example of what string art is,
but Inkscape can't actually do any of those patterns. As far as I can tell, you can stitch 2 lines to produce a side (and make some interesting patterns), but there aren't any facility to make a polygon, eg set the number of sides and have it make something like the Parabolas in a Polygon example, or any of the others.
Attempting to do them manually has proved problematic, lacking the accuracy needed.
I'd like to see it be able to do something like the Spirograph effect, a complete enclosed object, by optionally setting the number of sides.
A switch should enable this step-and-repeat parameter, eg "Polygon", and when enabled, you could choose between the different types, like on that site.
Otherwise it would work as it currently does.
Basically it needs to be expanded.

That seems like a natural upgrade for the tool.

So patterns like these which I did with the stitch subpaths lpe? Go ahead and inspect the file to see how it was done.

Note: Edge lines are just copies of the original paths without the stitching applied.
