Bug Description

using autopackage inkscape20071226rev16830AOCV.package on Slackware 12; installed as root, used as user; running under gdb I get:

---
** (inkscape:19239): WARNING **: file creating: Read-only file system

(inkscape:19239): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_file_system_unix_get_info: assertion `g_path_is_absolute (filename)' failed

(inkscape:19239): Gtk-WARNING **: file_system_unix=0x8fafb80 still has handle=0xafb8598 at finalization which is NOT CANCELLED!

** (inkscape:19239): WARNING **: file creating: Read-only file system
---

Had to install gssapi (http://www.citi.umich.edu/projects/nfsv4/linux/libgssapi/ and using src2pkg) and krb5 (from slacky.eu by AS) packages to get this far.

This sounds pretty serious. Can you please provide the exact steps to reproduce this issue (including any text filled out in dialogs, whether you have an ocal account - and what the account username is, etc.)

Note that I'm using Slackware 12 which doesn't have gnome only KDE, so it could be a deficit of some gnome-y stuff(?).

Or perhaps a firewall issue ...?

My method is simple:
1) run inkscape
2) make single object on canvas (eg draw a square)
3) use File > Document Metadata (to change license)
4) save as "test-ocal.svg"
5) File > Export to OCAL

This appears to get a bit further now that I've entered my user/pass into the inkscape prefs dialog; the username dialog no longer pops up just one asking "Select file to export to".

Error: "Error exporting the document. Verify if the server name, username and password are correct. If the server have support for webdav and verify if you didn't forget to choose a license too."

file I'm trying to upload to OCAL, incidentally I save it in /home/username and have tried both using just the filename "test-ocal.svg" and using the full path in the "Select file to export to" dialog.

HTH happy to give any more details. Will try with win32 build this week if I get chance.

I find this very odd, i think it should actually export the opened document, not to show a pop-up asking for the file name... after entering the document's actuall filename, it asked me for ocal user name and password, I entered "test" in both fields and Inkscape crashed.

It seems additional UI and backend work is needed for this feature, so I recommend we disable it for the release and not advertise it as a feature.

this feature as far as i can tell, still doenst work in windows either...

Due to implementation issues, it is a Linux-only feature (for now). It would require porting work before it would be a supported feature for WIndows.

Keeping this one as a 0.46 milestone until it is disabled. We can then move it to the 0.47 milestone.
Would a developer with knowledge in this area of the codebase be able to pick this one up?

Agreed... this should be disabled for 0.46.

This has been done in the release tree. Moving milestone to 0.47. Hopefully someone can work up a real fix by then.

Latest release on Ubuntu, Inkscape 0.45+devel (Mar 14 2008).

Still exhibiting the same issues whilst attempting to upload - still no idea what's supposed to go in the "file name" dialog.

I get a message in the console "** (inkscape:7340): WARNING **: file creating: Read-only file system" so I wonder if this is a permission problem possibly on a temporary filespace? I can see, judiciously using "lsof | grep inkscape" that a connection is made to "hawthorn.osuosl.org:www".

Download however is great, search works and all too. Awesome.

Is this really critical? I can think of several issues more important than this and they are marked with lower importance.

According to the bug triage project wiki page, "Only use Critical priority for extremely serious bugs that will be affecting most everyone using Inkscape. ".
Since Export to OCAL is not a released feature, and is only available on Linux, we can't say it's affecting everyone.
And it doesn't lead to a crash or data loss, nor is a fundamental feature.
Let's change it to medium and postpone again.
