prints 8.5x11 when set to 11x17

I am trying to print on 11x17 size transparencies using my Epson 1430 Artisan printer. I have the document properties set to tablet/ledger 11x17 in inkscape and set to US B 11x17 in the printer preferences. When the print preview dialog comes up, it cuts off the image and when i print it also. I measured the width that it cut off at to approx. 8.5 so I think it defaulted to 8.5 somehow.

****** update as I was typing this and verifying what I was saying I decided to switch the printer preference from US B 11x17 to user defined just to see what it would do. It worked! it appears that inkscape and epson artisan weren't communicating the paper size correctly until I changed it to user defined in the epson printer settings.

This info might save other users some trouble. I tried and tried for days to make this work.
