Bug Description
Inkscape version is Inkscape 0.92.3 (2405546, 2018-03-11) running on Windows 10 Pro 1709 Build 16299.371
When highlighting objects from the Object list (the windows where the user would add or remove layers), the object in the drawing becomes selected, as expected. The reverse, is not true, though: selecting an object in the drawing doesn't appear to highlight anything in the Objects list.
The thing is, it DOES scroll to the object which leads me to believe that it is SUPPOSED to be highlighting it.
What I think is going on, and feel free to correct me since I'm not familiar with the code base, is that the Windows control is incorrectly set to hide its selection when not focused. This is default behavior in Windows for some reason and has been for years. Unfortunately, I can't test this as there's no way to get focus to this list without changing which object is selected (since InkScape traps the tab key and all mouse clicks in the Objects list either select an object or don't give the list focus).

it looks as if the switch to gtk3 may have changed this behavior
