FEATURE: display quality slider

Bug Description

The antialiasing in Inkscape is great but it can really slow down performance on big complex vector drawings (such as maps).

It would be great to have the option to turn antialiasing off and on for linework and/or fonts. Bitmap smoothing could also be thrown in there.

Flash player has this feature in the form of high, medium or low quality.
Xara Xtreme has a great feature that allows the display quality to be set on a sliding scale - from jaggy outlines to full Inkscape-like quality.

Thanks for submitting your feature request goulding.
I think this is a great idea.
Outline Mode is good, but sometimes, you want a little more detail. I think being able to toggle blur on and off as well would be handy, rendering that slows down performance big time too...

sounds good feature: I don't know exactly how the renderer is built. So maybe we can adjust the acuracy of the interpolation of the bezier curves (if this is possible).
I do not belief that switching blur on/off is really that good because it really changes the drawing (such as outline mode does).

If one can create a page in the wiki to summarize the ideas ...

Yeah, I'm desperate for this. The program runs HORRIBLY on normal viewing mode, making it completely unsuitable for work and vastly increasing the chance of it randomly crashing (and typically in my case the program disappears entirely in said scenario).

Yet outline mode is equally useless - I can't see what fill color everything has without clicking on it.

I'd love a super low quality normal display, similar to how Xara does it.

I'd use Xara or Illustrator, but their pen tools just don't match up to Inkscape and make it a real pain to change shapes. It's horrid being stuck in the middle.

I'm using 0.46 and cannot work anymore because Inkscape has to ponder the meaning of life every time I change something (scroll, zoom, move, transform). I already have the effect setting on the lowest possible level. A bunch of blurs for drop shadows and some transparency in a background box is all I'm using...

in 0.47 we have 3 steps: outline, no filters, normal

no-AA mode is not supported neither by our current renderer nor by cairo, and in any case AA is not necessarily a big part of slowness when rendering paths.
