Bug Description

1. open the attached file.
2. click on the figure, approximately in the middle of panel A; most of the fig gets selected
3. menu edit->copy
4. kaboom with following console msg:

The program 'inkscape' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 152486 error_code 3 request_code 18 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Debian stretch here, about dialog says inkscape 0.92.1 r15371.

It is similar though I have no clue if it's the same.

Reading other comments, my guess is that DE choice might matter for this bug (e16 wm here).

I would be happy to give you you backtrace or more dbug stuff but inkscape seems to be somewhat ignoring some standard ways.

If I run xtrace and trying to redirect X calls to intermediate layer to log X communication (the usual way is that you run something like "binary -display :9") inkscape does not recognize similar argument.
Running under gdb with --sync commandline arg and setting breakpoint on gdk_x_error does not work either.

Any other hint for the way you debug inkscape?

I had the same problem with inkscape on my friend Ubuntu 17.10.
The problem occured while I had turned doublecmd on.
My friend replaced doublecmd with krusader.

No doublecmd on my machine (ubuntu only?)

I will investigate this further, because I'm in a need for Inkscape actually.
Tried version 0.92 from suse build service/tumbleweed, but that one crashed right after loading, displaying no further reason why it did so.

Anyone compiled the sources w/ DEBUG?

On pc Debian testing x86-64, with master sources updated today, I don't reproduce this.
It's been fixed with https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/commit/d8d99efc5a827e7cedbc228fbfe536bc5e5ed9fb
