Bug Description
With a fresh install of Inkscape (currently version 0.9.1 on Mint 18.2, but the same issue exists on the default version of Inkscape on Ubuntu 17.10 and latest Manjaro), the screen redraw is much too slow on my brand new workstation. Even when simply drawing a large rectangle on the screen, you see visible tearing around the location of the mouse pointer (e.g., when drawing a rectangle from the upper left corner to the lower right corner, the tearing is visible at the right and bottom side of the rectangle being drawn).
Both the CPU (i7820x) and the GPU (nVidia 1060) are very beefy, so that cannot be the issue.
I highly suspect the problem to be related to the size of my monitor, which is a HP Z27Q 5K screen (5120 x 2880 pixels), but I also noticed in on another 4K monitor I tried, although less significant. Reducing the size of the window helps, but even when using half the screen, the tearing is present.
I am new to Inkscape, but I assume this is not normal behaviour.
Note: I am using the latest nVidia proprietary drivers, and I have tried increasing the rendering performance settings in the Preferences, to no avail.
