Objects become invisible when the file is saved, sometimes completely at random.

Bug Description

Inkscape 0.92.2
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
i3-2120 3.3GHz
6GB ram

While using the program, at this point drawing objects, the objects on screen will become invisible. We seem to be able to duplicate the issue immediately by simply saving the file and then all objects become invisible. The objects are still there as they can be selected, but they cannot be seen, at all, making my daughter's digital arts coursework impossible to complete.

Do you have a sample file that reproduces this issue reliably? If so could you attach (part of) it?

I'm aware of some rendering glitches (that give the impression of objects disappearing) which can typically be worked around by zooming out and in again.

Eduard,

I appreciate your quick interest.

Upon continued searching I found a discussion thread documenting what
appears to be the same issue in version 92.1 though it is present in my
version of 92.2. The thread is
http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?topic=596.0, but the bug does
not appear to be present in version 0.91 so I installed it and the saved
files loaded without the issue. Within the thread there is discussion of a
complex work around that quite frankly is much more trouble than just
installing an older version.

I hope the issue is resolved in a more permanent fashion in the future, but
for now as long as the older version works, it will do.

Thank you for your quick concern,

Jamie

Correction, we attempted modify a file and most of the image disappeared in
version 91 so we're still having issues. I will keep you posted. Attached
is the file we were trying to work with.

Thanks.

OK, thanks for the example.
I can confirm this is a bug. It might be a duplicate of bug #1687514 but I'm not 100% sure, so I'll leave this one open for now.

If you did not apply a "Shape" to the path on purpose you can avoid the issue by
- using regular Beziér paths (the first "Mode:" selection in the path tool (Shift + F6))
- setting "Shape:" to "None"

As this is the program my daughter is using for a class, she has to follow
a specific set of instructions in a specific order, which is prescribed by
her instructor. Part of each assignment she has had to date is using the
triangle in/out function which begins the problem.

As I said, I installed version 91, but when we opened the bugged file it
remained invisible, but starting a new file worked seamlessly. For now,
this seems to be the best option for her.

Again, thank you for your time and effort regarding our problem.

Have a good day,

Jamie

(very) Offtopic: Jamie, that's cool that Inkscape is used for education :) What kind of class is this?

It is a 9th grade introduction to digital arts class. The part of this
whole issue is my daughter is the only one in the class that is apparently
having any kind of problem. It was also a little bit of an issue that all
of the course work was written for an older version, but the teacher
"required" the latest version even though he had not used it yet. So far
version 91 seems to work well for my daughter, which has alleviated some
stress from her life.

Have a good one,

Jamie
