Bug Description

0. check out svn revision 16554
1. open document
2. crash inkscape (e.g. by dragging a line, see previous bug report)
3. error dialog pops up saying "inkscape has encountered an internal error and will close now"
4. try to click on anything using mouse, this will not work, giving user idea that xdm as a whole has become unresponsive
5. only pressing enter button will work: when pressing enter, close button will be hit, dialog closes in the end.

bottom line: why isn't mouse working after inkscape crash, also when clicking on something outside the inkscape screen?

Partially confirmed under Fedora Core 6, rev 17027 (the last time I had a crash). Unlike Bram (whose mouse doesn't work "also when clicking on something outside the inkscape screen"), I am able to use the mouse in other apps after a crash. It's just that I can't use the mouse to dismiss the crash dialog--I have to hit return when the dialog has focus. (or go to a terminal and kill the app manually...)

I think it depends on whether Inkscape crashed while it had a mouse grab in effect or not (e.g. during dragging); when it does, the grab remains and it isn't possible for the crash dialog to get mouse events. Ideally Inkscape should relinquish any outstanding grabs from the crash handler, before displaying the dialog.

Sounds like for this one, we need a patch that checks for and releases grabs from within the crash handler.

happens with Inkscape r22575 on OS X 10.5.8 as well, as described in comment #3 - removing tag 'linux'
