Bug Description
Unless I'm wrong (correct me if it's the case) and if cairo will remain the
default back end for pdf export, I think it would be most useful to be able
to specify the bitmaps type and resolution (lossless, down sampling, etc)
for the .pdf.

I second that.
What's more, atm bitmaps are always included uncompressed in the exported PDF, even if they are jpg (which PDF supports natively). The batik pdf "rasterizer" correctly handles this and produce smaller PDF.
