How do you think about groups of layers?

I suggest to work with hierarchical relationships. I imagine to manage the grouping of layers in a tree view.

The heirarchy is already possible with layers. If you use the Layer dialog, it does support sub-layers as well.

A hierarchical reorganisation is not supported be the dialogue " Layers..." (Shift+Strg+L) so far.
I do also not see that sub-layers can be created over the menu.

I have got the impression that layers can be reordered (up/down) but are not groupable by the current user interface.

I have discovered that sublayers can be created if a specific option was selected in the dialogue "Add layer".

There is already a kind of tree view involved in the dialogue "Layers...".
- It seems that there are no GUI controls available to change the hierarchy level. (I do not want to jump to the XML editor view.)
- A node can not be dragged to an other position.

Indeed, it's not possible to change hierarchy level yet
