Bug Description

i can view all guides, and hide all guides, with just one click.
why can't i 'clear all guides' please? this should be View > Guides > Clear
all guides.

my screen looks quite cluttered with guides for one part of the design.
if i clear it, i will create a fresh set of guides for another part of the
design.

umm... but then when i need to get back to the first part of the design, i
will have to remove the clutter of the fresh guides, and redraw all the
previous guides again.

suggested solution: a comprehensive 'guide sets' in its own palette, or in
a fly-out menu.

thanks.

Given the following...

and
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/inkscape/+spec/guides-improvement

Improvements to guides are clearly in the pipeline... I would like to add voice to a small wishlist feature request.

As a first step - I would love to see a clear all guides option. It is possible to delete guides one by one, and hide them... but sometimes I would like to just "Nuke All Guides Right Now, Really" [NAGRNR]

And the suggested 'View > Guides > Clear all guides' would probably work well!
and perhaps a keyboard command to go with it... perhaps ctrl-\ ?
Or even add an option to "clear/delete all guides" to the guideline dialogue that comes up when you double click a guideline?
Or maybe a ctrl-shift-click?

I dunno - whatever makes the most sense for usability... but it would be sweet to be able to clear guides and start fresh.
 - delete guides
 - nuke guides

Thanks guys!

Guides are a very powerful tool and I use them a lot.
I agree with the request of adding a "clear all guides" operation, wherever you feel it's easier to implement. Just to avoid having to ctrl+click over them one by one (given it's not so easy as you have a small amount of pixels and maybe a lot of different objects all around).

Also, I'd like to add three other requests:

1st: duplicate an existing guide (shift+drag, ctrl+c / ctrl+v, ctrl+d or whatever...); it would be useful for when you need to create many guides with angles different than 0°, 90° and 45°.

2nd: remember the last setting of the "Guideline - Relative change" option: I use it a lot and I need to set it each time I open the dialog. Or maybe a shift+dbl-click or alt+dlb-click could open it whith this option already set.

3rd: merge the first two, i.e. duplicate an existing guide applying an offset to the newly created one.

Incidentally, my 2nd and 3rd requests are simply a workaround for the lack of possibility to place the space origin in a given point...

upcoming Inkscape 0.47 includes a new extension: 'Guides Creator'.

From the Release Notes:
"The new Render > Guides Creator extension allows creating easily horizontal and vertical guides for dividing equally the canvas. You can choose the divisions from None, 1/2, 1/3 ... to 1/10. "
<http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.47#New_and_improved_extensions>

It has presets and an option to clear all existing guides. Does this qualify as 'Fix released'?

Yep! It's great.

The new Guides Creator extension is fantastic.

It's possibly not as 'discoverable' as it could be - but once everyone knows where and how to find it, I expect you'll have a lot of happy customers.

From the Extensions menu choose Render -> Guides Creator

Dialogue attached.

and the rule of thirds and golden ratio presets are cool too!

Thank You :)

I endorse that a simple new 'Remove All Guides' command would be good.

Guides are very thin and takes some time to select and remove each of them. As frequently we use many of them, the new command is clearly justified.

I also agree that the better place to it is just below the only Grid command that there is now, at the View menu.

Vote +1 to have a simple "remove all guides" menu item. There is already "Guides around page" in the Edit menu - it would go perfectly together just there...
