From the "pie which could someday be in the sky" dept:
I find I quite often have two objects selected and I want to go into the
node-tool and have *all* the nodes from *both* displayed so that I can
select them and align them or edit them.
So:
1. Select object A
2. Shift + Select object B (and C and D ..)
3. Go to node tool
4. Both objects' nodes show up
5. Edit the nodes on both A and B freely
6. Align the selected Nodes from A and B freely
