a library of UI Widgets as SVG obejcts

Bug #171641 reported by Openstandards
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone

Bug Description

Inkscape is a fantastic tool for doing mock ups of webpages and application
design, but it lacks a set of widgets such as drop down boxes, check boxes
and even radio buttons.
Adding a feature with predefined OS widgets would lower development time
spent on designing an application or website.

some of these features might be implemented if inkscape allowed forms
(buttons, drop downs, tickboxes) but even then you would probably be better
off using a dedicated web design tool.

another approach (and I think the one you have in mind) would be to draw
such widgets, and create sheets of shapes like Dia (or Microsoft Visio)
it is planned to eventually offer that kind of shape library management in
Inkscape too _eventually_ but it is hard to know when and it is more likely
in the shorter term that developement will focus more on the SVG
specifications (but you never know, and even without a complicated system
you can always make your own document full of reusable shape and maybe even
submit them to openclipart.org)

I cannot speak for anyone else but although I understand website mockups
in inkscape to a certain extent I think it is counter productive to suggest
doing application mockups in anything other than a RAD Tool (Rapid
Application Development, like Glade, or Qt Designer).

When it comes to diagrams to draw the structure of a web site then it
might be useful to directly reuse the icons found in the SVG themes for
Gnome or KDE.
(Dont worry if it isn't entirely clear what I mean, just ask and I attempt
to clarify)
