Bug Description
Hello. I'm offering both a suggestion and an offer to
improve the UI surrounding the gradient editor. While
not perfectly satisfied with the simple gradient types
the SVG format apparently supports (this is what I
gather from a previous post), it's the interface for
editing gradients which has me wasting time while
doing artwork.
When working with more complex drawings, I tend to use
several dozen gradients, each of which has a specific
purpose and matches specific colors. For this I need
to be able to arrange and name gradients. This is
almost purely from a UI standpoint, however it would
require some metadata or rearranging of the gradient
defs (I'm making the assumtion that Inkscape operates
natively in SVG).
The ability to see a small thumbnail window of all
gradients available would be very nice. The ability to
drag-arrange them would be brilliant, but "move
up" "move down" buttons would surely suffice.
Personally I have no use for patterns, but surely many
people do. The same interface could be used for
patterns and perhaps swatches as well.
In fact, a tabbed gradient/
be very welcome to the UI as a whole. Obviously the
developers currently working on Inkscape are not blind
to the need for various palette windows to visualize
aspects of the interface, but I am focusing on this
one area.
I will look at the source tonight or tomorrow and see
how these things are implemented. In the meanwhile, I
welcome and encourage any developers who know more
about this to leave some feedback.
Adrian
