Object list in Layer tree

To the layer palette, include an expanding/collapsing
list of all objects assigned to each layer, be able to
select these objects, re-order from front to back, move
to other layers, etc. Objects have descriptive names
like 'bitmap' or 'rectangle' or 'Bezier Curve" and can
be renamed. CorelDraw is a better model for this than
Illustrator IMO.

I'm fairly sure bulia wants to keep the layer dialog for
just layers rather than turing it into a full Object Tree.

I leave it up to bulia to close or otherwise reevaluate this
request.

Is this issue closed?
It seems a pretty good idea to me.
When working with transparent objects or just lots of objects at the same time itwould be nice to be able to list them, either in the layer dialog or in a separate list.
 or am I missing something?

This was imported from the old Sourceforge tracker. I'm not sure who closed it, but I guess it's up to the developers to decide whether they'd like to implement the feature or to decline it. I've reopened the report so that someone can take a second look.

Better Object management (like Corel) is required for complex drawings as requested above. Whether it is added to the Layer dialog or the XML tree viewer is improved is of secondary importance.
