Bug Description

Hello!

I want to propose a new category of objects, being able
to be created. (sorry for my english, im german). I
thought, it would be great, if you could create
diagrams and charts with Inkscape, like with excel.
just type in the numbers and it creates automatically a
vector-based diagram.

That would be very great, because a tool like this is
really missing. With Excel or similar programs you can
just create bad png-graphics with very constricted
possibilities of use beyond Excel itself.

I hope this idea is not absolute new and not at all
unimplementabel!

greetings,

valentin dietrich

There actually is a way to get diagram in SVG format that
you can edit in Inkscape. Try using Gnuplot
(http://www.gnuplot.info). It can export graph as a SVG, and
then you can modify that with Inkscape.

Though I like your idea.

Gnumeric can create charts and export them as SVG,
dont judge Gnumeric by the limitations of Gnumeric

perhaps there is potential for integration and reuse there

(gnumeric has attempted once unsuccesfully already to create
a reusable maintainable charting library and this is their
second attempt)

there are various other graphing programs which can export
to SVG (or other formats inkscape can import like EPS).
although someone may add graphing support directly inside
Inkscape there are probably other tasks developers are more
likely to work on instead.

added "and graphs" to summary to make it easier to search
for this and related reports,
should help when trying to avoid duplicates
