Bug Description
I am currently drawing a number of city maps from aerial photos. And a
typical map involve a lot of fairly straight lines and alignment that isn't
strictly horizontal or vertical. Also the directions naturally change on
different parts of the image.
A lot of the functionality is Inkscape (and similar programs) is based on
horizontal and vertical directions: Guidelines, grids, snaps, resize
handles, selections, text boxes and so forth. But for this type of work it
would be very convenient to be able to rotate the "working directions" so
that all the tools and features work in the direction of the part currently
being drawn.
E.g., if I need to draw a typical rectangular building I could "rotate
Inkshape working direction" to the relevant angle and then pull in guildes,
draw the rectangle, add text, resize it, align it, draw surrounding areas
and so on, all that with the combined convenience of working directly on
the true directions of the map and at the same time using the tools in a
straight forward way.
Alternatively one could of course use a feature that in a simple way
rotated the full drawing temporarily, to turn the area of interest to
horizontal/
It may be an unconventional and difficult idea, but I hope some find it
worth considering anyway. Oh, and thank you for the great job on this
program!
Thank you
