Bug Description

Would it be possible to allow the user to create a
path, then stroke it with a calligraphy brush to obtain
the thicks and thins of a real pen while still being
able to easily edit and have full control over the base
path. Currently it seems there is no way to have full
control over the calligraphic strokes, especially if
one uses a mouse. It might even be a good idea to
allow a path to be stroked with symbols.

~ Thank you

This should noted as 'parity with Expression'.

Is it possible to have Postscript fills and/or strokes, or
would this be undesirable - SVG != Postscript.

I very much like this idea. It is remarkably difficult to
get a straight line with a mouse using the calligraphy tool.
This would solve the problem.

The Pattern along Path LPE works similar to what you describe. (this LPE is able to stroke a path with (multiple copies of) another path/symbol)

+1 for this feature request. I would like to have a tool or a plugin
to "Calligraphy a path" (read 'calligraphy as a verb, there). I.d. you
draw a path with the Bezier Tool, than make that path 'calligraphied'.
I would assume such a thing is possible, because when you use the
Calligraphy tool with your mouse (i.e. there's no pressure information)
what you get is a path anyway, a series of bezier curves. Therefore I
can't see why you wouldn't be able to make an existing path
'calligraphied'.

Actually, I suggest an auto-generation of skeleton when you draw a calligraphic path. When using the edit tool, the skeleton appears in red and you can thus edit the position of the whole stroke easily. For the actual shape of the calligraphy stroke, you can make use of the tweak tools instead (honestly, how many people want to mess with those hundreds of individual nodes D: ).
