Bug Description

Integrating an equation editor into the program will be
great, specially for those like me that use inkscape
for doing technical illustration (vectors, points,
graphs...) in my work and at the university. I don't
think it will be that difficult (though i know nothing
about inkscape's internals).

Anyway thanks for such a great app and keep up the
hard work!

Developers might consider using GtkMathView

(actually I think it doesn't require Gtk anymore)

Shouldn't be too tough to do, especially with MATHML, which
would make inkscape an even better tool!

I think this is a great idea, but something that needs a lot of work
outside of
Inkscape before it gets to a point where it is usefull. An app like the
Mac's
EquationEditor, which allows one to type a LaTeX equation and then export
it
as a PDF that can go into Illustrator, or Keynote, or almost ANYTHING in a

Mac, would be ideal, but in order to get something like that to work I
think
the best way is to work on the SVG backend to cairo. That way, it should
be a
relatively small task to create an app that accepts LaTeX input in a text
field,
calls pdflatex to render the equation, and then uses poppler with the SVG

backend to generate an SVG that Inkscape can understand.

This would indeed be a great addition to Inkscape, but I encourage people
to
contribute to the SVG backend effort in cairo first, because that would
open a
whole window of opportunities for importing vector graphics into Inkscape,

or to write script to generate them automagically via cairo, etc.

I also look forward to the day when I can make my research posters in
Inkscape, with all the crazy equations and whatnot!!
