"Export vector" command decoupled from "Save as"

Bug Description

I hope I have not missed something...

It would be great if inkscape could export the current document
as any vectorial format (say eps for example)...

I explain...
I am working on myFile.svg, and I want to export it in eps. I use
"save as" and save it as myFile.eps.

Now, I see that there is a mistake on my file, and I want to
modify it. Now, the name of the file I am working on is no longer
myFile.svg, but myFile.eps...
So I have to re-open myFile.svg and close myFile.eps...
If update 3 times my file, I have to open and close 6 files ...

Generally speaking, if the format used to save the current image
handles less informations than the initial one, the export function
is very useful...

Anyway, Inkscape is a GREAT software !

You can export to PS/EPS by going to "Save as". I agree it's
not the obvious thing to do, so I'm renaming the RFE.

I agree fully with tsomo.

The native file format of Inkscape is SVG/SVGZ. Every other
format brings with it some loss of information.

Traditionally, there are two major ways of handling this
situation:

* some programs (e.g. GIMP, MS Word) handle everything with
open/save

* most programs I know of use "open/save" only for the
native file format and "import/export" for anything else

Personally, I would prefer the second option for Inkscape.
There should be a clean distinction between "open/save" for
the native file format and "import/export" to anything else
(potentionally lossy and potentially offering specialized
options)

The bug here is not "Export" vs. "Save as..." but that there is no warning that EPS is a write only format. PS is apparently also in that boat. Until such time as somebody implements "Open" for PS and EPS, such a warning should be in place. Something
along the lines of:

EPS is a write only format. Save a copy in Inkscape SVG format if this drawing may ever need to be opened again.

Hmm, I see a related bug. In the "Open recent" dialog EPS files have a red bar over them, presumably to indicate
that they cannot be (re)opened. That red bar is missing for Postscript files. PS files may be selected in "Open recent", but they will not open.

This bug is NOT a duplicate of 171054. That bug concerns (primarily) the implicit action of "Save as" which is:

and make all subsequent "Save" operations also write to this file

I believe that issue is resolved by the "Save a copy..." option, which is nothing but "Save as.." without this implicit action.
