Bug Description
Can you please add a --with-libgc= switch to the
configure script? There's no easy way to make use of a
libgc installation that is not in the standard /usr path.

In the gc-7+ version of libgc there will be a .pc file
included in gc releases and pkgconfig is a better solution
than yet another configure flag for this annoying problem.
In the short term using CFLAGS, LDFLAGS on the configure
command and exporting CPATH, as well as deleting the
version check from configure (it doesn't work) is a
workaround for those using gc 6.4 and later versions.
