Bug Description

I am looking for a combined "clone/tile"
and "grid/arrange" function. e.g. to have the possibility
to chosse that an object shall be cloned 5 times
horizontally and arranged with a fixed spacing of 10mm
from each other.
(-> the clone/tile function does not offer an arrangement-
distance other than percent)
(-> the grid/arrange function does not offer to choose to
dublicate or clone an object at all (and also only
offers "px" for the distance-it is already in thje bugs-list
no. 1218610))

No, what you need is not "combining" these, just absolute
units in setting spacing in Tile Clones.

Hi all,
4 years later, it doesn't appears to be possible to specify an absolute shift value while cloning (I didn't checked HEAD).
If I submit a patch to that lack, is there some chances that it'll be accepted ?

Thanks to all

Certainly, if done right, with a unit selector, and keeping the
ability to still use percentages, a patch will be accepted!

Sorry - we're just always too busy with more urgent stuff...

Adding absolute values to tiled clones should have very high priority - this is an area where Inkscape has a real advantage over other packages, and it would be very wise to pay special attention to it. Undeveloped advantage is quickly lost.

I'm also waiting for this feature for years. Hope someone could implement this in the next release.

It's 2016 and Inkscape still can't create a grid of objects at specified center-to-center distance? Unbelievable.

I also heavily missing this feature!

Furthermore, I am just wondering...
when tile cloning an object the object properties "inkscape-tile:h" and "inkscape-tile:w" are added to the original object. At least in Inkscape 0.92.
Apparently, these parameters already contain the shift values in absolute units (mm or whatever page units?!). So, why not making these values available for direct editing in the "Create tiled clones" dialog?

Well, then editing these parameters with the XML editor (Shift+Ctrl+X) might be a pretty cumbersome workaround for tiled clones with spacing e.g. in millimeters instead of %.

2020 checking in. Fifteen years later and this still hasn't been addressed. Oh well, what can you expect for free? I'll check back in 2035!
