command line assertion failure

So, on the latest version I am getting an assertion failure using the command line to export objects. It worked fine in a previous version of Inkscape (0.91) but my SVG is still exported despite the assertion failure:

$ inkscape "icons.svg" --export-id="Icon_Sprite" --export-id-only --export-plain-svg="sprite.svg"

** (inkscape.exe:4228): CRITICAL **: void SPObject::requestModified(unsigned int): assertion 'this->document != NULL' failed

** (inkscape.exe:4228): CRITICAL **: void SPObject::requestModified(unsigned int): assertion 'this->document != NULL' failed

... over and over for about 500 lines ...

problem not reproduced using Windows 10, Inkscape 0.92.1 r15371 (32 bit)
using the command:
inkscape "example.svg" --export-id="Icon_Sprite" --export-id-only --export-plain-svg="921exportid.svg"

could you indicate which OS?, which version of Inkscape (run Inkscape -V)

Here you are:

$ ./inkscape.exe -V
Inkscape 0.92.1 r15371

C:\Windows\System32>ver

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.15063]

I see now it doesn't do it unless the defs are left in the SVG, I can't seem to find which one it is, so here is the original SVG that does reproduce this.

I should mention it is taken from here:
https://github.com/enigma-dev/Calico-Icon

I want to export all of the individual icons as separate SVG files.
