linked offset path always closed

Bug #170373 reported by Bug Importer on 2004-08-18

Bug Description

When you create a linked offset object from a path
the new object will be a closed path (line drawn from
last node to first node) even if the source path was open.

happens in version 0.39 win32 and linux

I'm not sure this is fixable, because it may be non-trivial
to find out which segments of the offset path must be moveto
instead of lineto. But if it's possible, it would be nice.

IMO, this bug can be considered as a feature. Some awesome graphic can be created with the use of this bug. Example attached.

Please consider backward compatibility if someone is going to fix this bug. Thanks.
