Bug Description
In Import and Open dialogs, lists of formats are quite
long. They can be made much shorter by grouping entries
for the same format with different extensions, e.g.
instead of
jpeg (*.jpe)
jpeg (*.jpeg)
jpeg (*.jpg)
use
jpeg (*.jpe, *.jpeg, *.jpg)
and the same for pnm, tga, tiff. Also bmp and wbmp are
probably similar enough so that they can be grouped
together.

This is definitely non-trivial. Currently every extension
has a single filename extension that it supports. All
extensions will have to be changed to support multiple
filename extensions, and then checking these (things like
autodetect) will also have to change. Possible, but
non-trivial.
