well, my english is very poor, i hope i'll be understood...
anyway : in inkscape i can draw vector objects and do a lot
of things with them, but i can also import bitmap images;
there are some applications that can also do a lot of things in
the bitmaps obiects (like "canvas"); so i think that it would be
very interesting if we could do the same with a function in
inkscape: click on an image with the right button, so appears
a window with: open with the gimp; then with the gimp we
can do all that we want, but we have a preview in inkscape
to understand how it will be in our page; then we can import
the changes; it would be great also to change vector objects
in bitmap and do the same; in this way we could have both
bitmap and vector objects with the advantages of the
different editings; for example, a shadow with the blur, a part
of a photo with the alpha trasparence if we need only a
character or a thing, etc.; we could also paint on a white
bitmap object...
i'm afraid it's not easy, but in italy we say: domandare non
costa niente...(to ask does not cost anything)
thank you for your attention!

I think that one of the things he is suggesting is that you
would be able to
import a raster graphic into Inkscape
right click on it and choose to edit it externally with
another graphics program, namedly the gimp
have previews of the changes be shown in Inkscape.

I dont think anything like a fully embeded version of the
Gimp inside Inscape is necessary. Abiword has a plugin that
allows you to right click on an image and choose to open it
in the Gimp (or other specificied graphics program) and when
you save it and the file on disk changes Abiword will show
the updated version (if I recally correctly that is).
At least that is what I think he is getting at, I am having
difficulty understanding what he means.

yes, horkana is right; (also the second letter was of mine, i
forgot to put my password...); in general one of the most
interesting possibilities of open source software is no limit
integration between different applications: in blender you can
use yafray to render 3d images, in scribus 1.2 there will be an
integration with the gimp, with delineate you can use
autotrace or potrace to obtain svg files from raster images,
with the gimp 2 you can export a path obtained from a
selection to a svg file, openfx can edit the textures with an
external 2d application for 3d mapping...well, thak you
horkana, and if somebody is able to do this...

Hi,

I think what they're getting at is a very useful idea. Perhaps the
simplest way to do it, though, would be to have an automatic update of
external bitmaps when they change on disk.

That way, you could just save or 'save a copy' in gimp, Inkscape would
notice the file it imported from had changed, and re-import the image
so that you can see the updated version.

if i have uderstood well, my request is not just the same:
in that way we have something similar to adobe products, in
my way we have something like deneba canvas; not only
import, but to see changes in inkscape (it's useful in a
page, for example, to see how it works between other
elements); i have an old version of deneba canvas, it's
quick and easy; i'd like to use gimp inside inkscape! and to
move changed object, and then to change it again...
will it be possible?
anyway thank you and keep on forgivin' my english!
