Bug Description

Giving styles a name

It should be possible to give a certain style a name
and an "applier" tool (to apply a certain style to an
object by clicking on it).

Names styles should have a "Named Styles" dialog to
select them. When one of them is selected, it's should
be copied to the "Object style" dialog.

And it would be ultra-cool to be able if names styles
could apply to specific parts (ie. a named Style
"RedLine" which sets the strokes to red but doesn't
change the fill and other stroke settings).

And the hyper-cool stuff would be if one could apply
any number of named styles to an object and Sodipodi
would remember them: When I change one of them later,
all objects with that style would change as well.

(NOTE: This RFE originally was in the sodipodi bug
tracker as # 616228)

KIDPROTO: Apps like freehand and illustrator implement
styles through a palette where styles can be dragged
and dropped on objects and groups of objects.

As someone who has learned the joys of properly using styles
when Word Processing (many years ago, and more recently Web
Design) a powerful styles system would allow people to find
many more ways to misuse Inkscape in ways the developers
might not have predicted.
Certainly those who are already using Inkscape for
diagramming and techincal drawing could stand to benefit
massively from tools which make it easier to enforce styles
throughout their documents.

As of 1.1-dev (c990a67, 2020-04-09), a Selectors & CSS dialog has been added, it's quite powerful once you grasp how to use it. It's still a bit buggy, but this request has certainly been fulfilled. Try it out and report bugs to http://inkscape.org/report :)
