Bug Description
inkscape 0.44 autopackage on ubuntu 6.06, and 32win
exec on windows xp.
bug: the gradient seems to be relative to canvas and
not to the object, i make some test on windows and
linux, on linux all time the gradient failds, and on
windows works fine some time, but when i'd open a file
generate on my inkscape-linux the inkscape on windows
faild on gradient too,

Most likely you have the "transform gradient with object"
button unpressed. Make sure it is pressed. If you have any
other problem, submit a detailed description with sample
files attached.
