Inkscape sometimes fails to print objects

Bug Description

Intel quad core, windows 7 Pro, Inkscape 0.91, Epson L220 4 Year Inkscape user.

From time to time, after completing a design document, Inkscape simply fails to send anything to the printer. Actually, when printing, I preview all requests and the page will be totally blank. Other times, Inkscape will selectively print some objects but not others on the same page. These are not objects with any distinct issues. They may be text created in Inkscape or imported .PNG images. Sometimes it is a coped object and sometimes items not printed are totally created from within Inkscape or converted to paths. Generally, saving and reopening the file does NOT help. Relocating things on the page does NOT help. Re-converting objects to paths does NOT help. Copying individual items to a new document DOES sometimes help. Most of the time, the only way to complete a project is to completely start again from scratch. After performing/importing object in exactly the same manner, it will print correctly. Often on simple designs this is less of an issue, but on some complex artwork, this is a huge pain in the *ss.

I am attaching an .svg file that shows absolutely nothing when printing.

Thanks

Printing ( Green Harbor Logo.svg ) directly to HP LJ400 crashed Inkscape, with recovery file generated. Inkscape 0.92.1 r15371, Win 8.1 64 bit.

Saving a copy as PDF (Convert all text to paths) and printing the PDF worked in a snap. Suggest this as workaround.

Hi, Tyler:
So I converted all the text to paths and then joined the individual words.  I attempted to print it directly from Inskape (9.92.1) and received this error

Re*opened the document, converted all text to paths, then saved document as a PDF, while checking the "save text as path" option.  Printed the PDF file correctly to the Epson printer.  Effective, but seems to be a lot of extra work.  Thanks for the suggestion.

In the interim, I have created and printed about 10 other art projects, all including images, text, and other misc. items both created in Inkscape and imported.  All of those printed correctly and directly from Inkscape, without any modification.  To test this issue further, I disassembled the unprintable document, in Inkscape, and attempted to print each object, individually, from within a new document.  Each time printing proceeded without any problems.  I then began adding additional individual items to the new document and attempting printing.  So far, nothing prevented correct printing.
This issue has been happening more and more over the past year or so.  Document/projects sem to be very picky.  They appear normal on the monitor, but when I send them to the printer, the preview will selectively drop out some objects.  For example, I could produce a document with 3 or 4 imported pictures with Inkscape native text.  When previewed before printing, sometimes one object will not be present while all others appear and print normally.  My assumption is that there is nothing incorrect with the technique that I am using to move objects in and out of Inkscape, and because from time to time, text or objects created entirely in Inkscape will not print....that the problem moves further from the arena of operator error and more into something, more or less, unknown about the encapsulation of all of the object during the printing process.  In the past, I have followed a somewhat similar process to your suggestion.  I would make a copy of the items and place it in on a word processor text page as an image.  From there printing would go as expected.  The problem with that solution is that there is a lot of guess work involved to get the correct scale for the Word document due to internal resizing and scaling because of the automatic margins.  This has resulted in a something that required a lot of guesswork and trial and error formatting.  The PDF option is an improvement, but thereis still some scaling during the conversion.
Thanks for your help.Bob

Hi Bob,

I usually just save a copy as pdf, and in the pdf output dialog, tick the text to paths button and set rasterization rez to 300-600dpi. (That is what I meant in the earlier reply with "(convert text to paths)".)

If you see scaling issues, check that when printing from your pdf reader, that the scaling is set to actual size or 100%.
