Bug Description
Hello Developers,
I work at a very large IT Company and manage a Team of 8 persons. We use Inkscape for a very large variety of Company-related Tasks. I've only been using it for 4 years, but I fell in love with it very quickly.
The nature of this bug report is to bring to attention the severe decline of performance that my team has seen with regards to 0.91 and even 0.92. We are forced to continue on 0.48 simply because it is far more reactive and performant. We use a variety of Mac and Windows machines as well as different hardware specs of course. Does not matter, the performance is slow for all of us.
We were hoping with 0.92 some of this would be addressed, but it has not. I cannot see how a larger audience will adopt Inkscape's latest version unless it is exactly, if not more, performant than 0.48.
We cannot be the only one's noticing this right? There surely must be other who are similarly disappointed with this next version especially after so many years...
Anyhow, that's just our input. In any case we are happy to use 0.48 for longer, we find it stable and quick, and that's more important to us than a few more features.
Regards,
Alex from Berlin

I'm not a programmer, so I can't provide any constructive troubleshooting info. But I just wanted to add a couple more comments or thoughts.
Are you able to come up with any way to quantify the performance difference (between 0.48.x and 0.91/0.92)? I'm thinking just some way to make it more objective (than subjective).
You have confirmed that the performance problems that you see across all different kind of systems, are not related to large file size, right? You see them just as often in a new blank file, as in a file with let's say one mb worth of content?
I have seen a couple of sporadic reports like this (in user support forums). But none where we could pin down any particular cause or solution. So I'm subscribing myself to your report, and will be interested to follow it (even if it turns out to be a duplicate).
I wrote this article/tutorial some time ago (Tips to Avoid Performance Issues: http:// forum.inkscapec ommunity. com/index. php?action= articles; sa=view; article= 35) which I share just in case something there might help you, that you don't already know about. Those are all for issues related to large file size, but still, I would guess the tips should help with performance issues of any cause. (Although if they don't, perhaps it would be a clue to the problem you see?)
Good luck :-)
