Bug Description

Thanks for this great application.

I have a TabletPC laptop with rotatable display (Lenovo
ThinkPad X41 Tablet). Unfortunately inkscape is not
usable in the rotated resolution (768x1024) because the
toolbar forses the window to be too wide.

Attaching a screenshot.

Yeah, could someone please fix this because I am unable to
use inkscape on my computer because of this (laptop screen -
800x600 - don't rub it in!). I love inkscape and I used to
use it all the time - but I can't use it on my computer
anymore because of this. Can't you have a miniture theme -
like in the gimp or do what other programs do and have a
tab-y-ish- thing that includes buttons that can't fit on the
toolbar in the current window size... if that makes sense.

By the way, I did think to myself whether this is not an
important problem, I mean, it's only going to be a few users
who will be stuck won't it? And they ought to upgrade their
computers by now right? But then I thought, anything that
allows the software to be useable in different ways is a
good thing, I mean, when I eventually can upgrade my
computer, it would be nice to have the option of resizing
the inkscape window to a small size and still use it - maybe
I'm needing to view a tutorial at the same time in my web
browser - or something. And the person who originally made
this bug report, he's got a good computer, it's just got an
odd screen size. I guess I'm saying that this fix would just
be another little thing to increase adaptibilty for most and
a lifesaver for a few of us.

But anyway! Could you please fix this! I keep putting
projects off that I am itching to do at the moment! Also,
could someone reply to this so that I know that this is
going to be fixed at some point or that it wont.

Inkscape has actually gotten to the point where it's too
large to entirely fit on the screen on my laptop without any
rotation. I think this is pretty serious, and I'd consider
it a release-blocker for 0.45.

Jon, when you get a chance could you give us an update on this bug?

Postponing for 0.45 since it's not a crasher or dataloss, and due to lack
of action on the bug.

This bug is present even in wider screens. The second toolbar from the top
down is wider than my 1024×768 screen, even though the tools don't even
fill it up completely.

Yes. The size required is the maximum required from all the different
toolbars that appear in the secondary position. (For 0.45 the longest had
been the star toolbar)

This is being corrected in current SVN work, and has already been
improved.

Just weighing in with the same problem. The option to use smaller icons seems to change nothing, and my vertical toolbar is too high for the screen. I can detach it, and the palettes and status bar pop into view, but then I have an annoying floating toolbar that obscures the menus.

With the rise of netbooks, this should be a more significant bug. Inkscape would work perfectly on my tiny machine, except for this one gripe.

Thanks :)
