svg statistics: total path length

(This is a wishlist bug. Please let me know if there is a more appropriate place to file it.)

I would love to see functionality in {inkscape,an inkscape plugin} that calculates total path length for an svg. Think of it as similar functionality to "word count" in word processors.

Even greater it would be if differently colored paths could be measured separately.

This would be very useful to us laser cutter users especially. It would allow to estimate cutting time quite accurately.

My financial means for this are limited, but I will gladly encourage the {person,people} building this feature with three hours of laser time and a few sheets of 3mm birch plywood to cut/engrave.
