Unanchored connector end doesn't snap

Bug Description

This is with 0.43.

An unanchored connector end doesn't seem to obey any
snap settings, nor the limited angles feature that
lines have when you hold down ctrl while positioning them.

Also 0.46 - makes diagramming difficult. Yes, I know, patches accepted ;)

Actually, I am curious - is this a case of operator error? My goal is to connect bodies in a diagram, but not from their center points (I'm making a pretty vanilla UML sequence diagram). I've got everything else pretty gridded out - should I be using something other than connectors? Is there a way to make sockets for connectors that I am missing? AM I DOIGN IT RITE?

Nope, its not operator error. You can' t currently create connector ports in Inkscape, though the underlying routing library supports this. The behaviour will get implemented in Inkscape eventually, but is not there yet.

Sorry, the connector implementation in Inkscape is a bit limited and neglected. I'd been busy working on my PhD thesis but should have some time to hack again on this part of Inkscape soon! :-)

Connectors snapping seems to work correctly on Windows, Inkscape 0.48.4 and trunk revision 12228 (I can't test older versions now, and thus can't say when the feature was added).

But I confirm limiting the angle with Ctrl doesn't work.

Testing with older versions (0.46 on Mac OS X 10.5.8, 0.47 on OS X 10.7.5):
Snapping (unconnected) connector endpoints to other snap targets (grid, nodes, etc) works in Inkscape 0.47, but not in Inkscape 0.46.

I've migrated the missing "Angle snapping" to Gitlab, and will close the issue here as part of Inkscape's bug migration.
