CSS shorthand properties are not supported yet. You must
set block-progression:rl (or lr) manually if you want to test
vertical text.

Neither render it correctly, the characters are supposed to be
rotated 90 degrees too.

I've fixed this so that it's now no longer a regression from 0.
41, but our behaviour still contradicts the css and svg specs
so the bug stays, albeit at a reduced priority.

Richard, is it still true for 0.45.1 or latest SVN?

My last comment is still true. This bug is also related to 1407757, which
basically says 'I have no idea how vertical text works in practice'.

Here are some examples that Inkscape (and Firefox) don't render correctly.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/6/66/20141023234901%21W3C_valid.svg (this version from 2008 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:W3C_valid.svg) The libRSVG (Mediawiki) now support this (so this image had to be fixed).
Especially here as "writing-mode:tb-rl;"

Chrome (and IE) passed the W3C SVG testsuite: http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/Test/20110816/harness/htmlObjectApproved/text-intro-03-b.html

writing-mode:tb-rl (which has since been deprecated, use writing-mode:vertical-rl instead) seems to be supported from at least 0.92.4 on. However, using your test file, I uncovered a regression in master affecting DPI conversion, which is here: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/2180

Also the file from comment #10 renders okay.

Closing this as part of Inkscape's Bug migration.
