Bug Description

The copy/paste from one Inkscape instance to another
doesn't work (I tested text elements). Copy/paste from
other than Inkscape products of images doesn't work
either (this last one less important for me).

I have the same problem with copy and paste routines.
Inkscape won't past a copy made to the clipboard.

Computer uses a Centrino processor, 1gb memory, WIN XP home,

Similar problem, though I can manage to get cut and paste
(or copy and paste) to work between two instances of
Inkscape *once* -- then I'll have to save, close down and
reopen the inkscape window I'm actively working in to get it to
work again.

(when cut and paste ultimately stops working, it takes the
last item I copied in the active environment and starts pasting
that instead.)

Same problem here, I was about to file a report. If the inkscape
instances were launched from application menu of from the file
manager, the clipboard between these inkscapes won't work.
However, if I launch another instance from existing inkscape's
file->open/new menu, these can share the clipboard.

This is a planned improvement and hopefully we will see it
within the next few releases.

This bug occurs when one try to copy/paste between windows
of different "seed".

For example when open 2 documents with double click in the
file browser, the copy paste will fail. If opening a windows
and then open a second one by doing "new" or "open", here
the copy paste will succed.

confirmed on windows, need to retry on ubuntu.

This is an absolutely critical bug.
Copy and paste (eg. from GIMP) doesn't work at all.
This is most definitely a priority to fix before adding any
more features.

This is an at the same time trivial (to fix) and severe (in
its limitation of functionality) bug to go unfixed for so
long.. what if you want to use an element of one drawing in
another?

All that is needed (at least in the short term) is for
Inkscape to check for an already running process and tell it
to open the file instead of creating a separate process with
its own clipboard.

Is there a temporary work around for this?

I just discover this but now. Opening a new file from within Inkscape
indeed allows to circumvent the problem. I am however surprised that this
bug was filed in february 2005 already and still exists in the current
version (0.45.1 under Windows). Could anyone please increase the priority
of this bug?

It seems not solved or new, in the last stable 0.45-1 (for windows) it
does also not work, in the 0.44 it worked properly from one
Inkscape-Instance to another.
The actual state is very unsatisfactory, because a productive operation
ist not yet possible.
I think, that that should have a high priority.

Not interestet to fix this or is it so impossible?
I can't work anymore with it and if nothing happens, I can't further
recommend this fantastic part of oss-software :(

Each window has its own clipboard.
The program does not copy objects from one window to another.
